Olympus Announces Software Developer's Kit to Create Applications for Award-Winning Digital Camera Line

Melville, NY - Olympus America Inc., the world leader in film and filmless photography, today announced their Software Developers' Kit (SDK) for third party developers to create applications for the Olympus line of award-winning digital cameras.

The Olympus Camedia Basic or Gold SDK makes it fast and easy to develop applications that complement Olympus digital cameras. Applications include software for image capture, file management, archival, transmission of files, etc. More than 50 methods and properties give Visual C++ or Visual Basic applications complete camera control of image capture, downloading, zoom, flash, resolution and more. The SDK supports all current and past Olympus models.

The SDK comes in two versions: Basic and Gold. The Basic version provides functions for downloading images and retrieving basic information from the camera. The Gold version provides functions for fully controlling the camera including image capture. All versions include e-mail support and access to a "Developer's Only" web site with FAQs and sample code.

The Olympus Basic or Gold SDK includes the camera control and support files, full documentation (hard copy and CD-ROM), sample code for Visual C++ and Visual Basic. It requires Visual C++ 5.0 or greater or Visual Basic 5.0 or greater; Windows 95/98, Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 3 or greater) or Windows 2000. The basic fee for the Non-commercial SDK is $15 for Basic or Gold SDK. The Commercial Shrink-wrap fee is $15 for Basic/$800 for Gold. All commercial uses require a one-time royalty fee.
