Olympus Launches a Camera Designed Especially for Tweens

Melville, NY - With the introduction of the new Olympus i snap, teenagers now have the best of both worlds - a stylish camera and the quality Olympus is known for. Perfect for tweens, ages 8 to 14, this compact, lightweight and hip-looking camera allows tweens to express themselves through photography at a price they can afford. Whether snapping shots of friends, vacations or end-of-year school events, the i snap - an excellent introduction to the world of photography - is a long-lasting, high quality and economical alternative to single-use cameras (disposables) and instant cameras.

The launch of the i snap marks Olympus' entrance into the youth market. Olympus recognized the importance of this expanding market segment and, after extensive research, discovered that the current options available to young consumers, such as disposables and instants, were missing the quality and technology that Olympus offers. Based on these findings, and global focus groups with teens, the i snap's shape, features and colors were specifically designed for this new customer. Olympus believes that the i snap provides the solutions that tween photographers have been waiting for - youthful style, affordability, ease-of-use and quality. Small enough to fit in the front compartment of a backpack and even the side pocket of a favorite pair of cargo pants, the i snap allows tweens to express their creativity and individuality while immortalizing their most memorable moments.

The i snap combines Olympus' design and quality with the easy-to-use benefits of the Advanced Photo System (APS). These include stress-free drop-in film loading, focus free, automatic flash, red-eye reduction and the ability to make reprints in Classic, HDTV or Panoramic formats. Available in three hip colors - sonic skyTM, kosmic kiwiTM and rocket rubyTM - the i snap, the perfect complement to any tween wardrobe, is sure to be a 2001 essential.

Olympus is partnering with Nickelodeon in a nationwide promotion to support the launch of the i snap and, furthermore, to find the best tween photographer in the country. Beginning in June 2001 and running through August, www.nick.com will feature a call for entries for the "i snap Backstage Photo Pass." One semifinalist will be chosen in each of the more than 40 markets, based on responses to photography/music-related questions that will appear online. These winners will receive free tickets to the TEENick Presents: Aaron's Party - featuring Aaron Carter and the A*Teens as the headline acts - near their hometown, backstage passes to meet and greet Aaron Carter, the A*Teens and other musical acts, and a complimentary i snap to document their experience.

The semifinalists will submit three to five photos, following specific criteria, during the TEENick Presents: Aaron's Party. A panel of judges will then review all the pictures and will select one overall winner to become the grand-prize winner. This winner will receive an all-expense paid trip to the Nickelodeon studios in Orlando, FL, to appear on Nickelodeon's "Slimetime Live." The winner's photos will also be featured on www.nick.com for one week.

The i snap will come chock-full of cool components in a blister kit, which includes an inflatable 3.5" x 5" picture frame, a camera strap, batteries, a translucent camera case with a handy hook for a belt or bag, film and a photo tips booklet. With the launch of the i snap, its bundling with these camera accessories and the sponsorship of the photojournalist promotion, Olympus proudly promotes photography that is fun for tweens, ultimately positioning itself as a photography mentor for the tween market.

The i snap will be available beginning in July 2001 at nationwide retailers, including Wal-Mart stores, for a suggested retail price of $39.95. Visit www.isnap.com for more information.
