Compact Advanced Photo System Camera With Two Macro
Shooting Modes is Introduced by Olympus

MELVILLE, NY (Feburary 18, 1999) —Olympus America, Inc. is pleased to introduce the Newpic M10 Macro compact camera. Designed for the Advanced Photo System format, it features an ultramacro capability and a starry-silver finish.

Until the advent of the Newpic M10 Macro, this type of ultramacro (ultra close-up) photography was impossible with a compact camera. Now it is as easy as choosing the Ultra Macro Mode for shooting from as close as 0.33ft.

This latest model also offers exceptional depth-of-field with its extraordinary minimum aperture of F44. With this range, a subject 0.33 - 1 ft away is kept in tight focus and the entire scene is sharp, even when the background is far in the distance.

The ultra macro mode automatically creates the effect of a 1/10,000 sec. shutter speed as well. Capturing every nuance of a moving subject, it expands ultra close-up opportunities and eliminates worries about the blur resulting from camera shake.

The Newpic M10 Macro has many features for easy operation, including four flash modes, a quartz date function and a self-timer. Just as with a 35 mm compact camera, the aperture can be set to infinity for landscapes or portraits. This camera is versatile and precise, making picture taking more fun for everyone.

MAIN FEATURES
Ultramacro Shooting From 0.33 Ft

In the ultra macro mode, a photographer can move in as close as 0.33ft to the subject. Previously impossible with a compact camera, ultramacro photography adds the fun of wider creative possibilities.

Sharp Macro Image With Extraordinary Depth-Of-Field
The Newpic M10 Macro offers extraordinary depth-of-field with its of F44 aperture. In the Ultra Macro Mode, the subject 0.33-1 ft away is kept in tight focus, and the rest of the scene is sharp, even when the background is far in the distance.

Effective 0f 1/10,000 Sec. Shutter Speed
Flash illumination in the ultra macro mode raises the effective of a shutter speed to 1/10,000 sec. With this super-high-speed effect in extreme close-ups, every nuance of a moving subject can be frozen, and there are no worries about the blur caused by camera shake.

Wide-Ranging Shooting Modes
The Newpic M10 Macro comes with the normal mode and super macro mode along with the ultra macro mode. With three shooting modes available, it takes only the touch of a lever to select the right one for opportunities ranging from ultramacro images taken at 0.33ft to distant landscapes.

Convenient Macro Adapter
To simplify shooting in the ultra macro mode, a macro adapter is included. With this additional convenience, the image does not have to be checked in the viewfinder, and there is no need for measuring to ensure the subject is precisely 0.33 ft away. The adapter also has a defuser that softens the intensity of the flash.

VERSATILE FLASH MODES
Four flash modes make it easy for anyone to take great flash photographs.

  • Auto In low light, the flash fires automatically to ensure the illumination is appropriate.
  • Red-Eye Reduction This mode minimizes the red-eye effect, which often spoils flash portraits taken in dim light. When the shutter release button is pressed, there is a series of low-powered pre-flash bursts Red-Eye reduction Lamp lights before the main flash fires.
  • Fill-in The flash always fires in this mode. It is ideal for high-contrast situations and will eliminate the harsh shadows caused by strong sunlight.
  • Flash Off With the flash always off in this mode, it is suited to capturing the mood of the moment or occasions where flash photography is prohibited.

ADVANCED PHOTO SYSTEM FEATURES
The Newpic M10 Macro uses the Advanced Photo System IX240 film cartridge. Loading is easy. Just drop the film into the camera. You never see or touch the film. The film is returned from the photofinisher in the cartridge with a proof sheet along with the photographs, simplifying the reprint process.

The photographer can select from 3 formats for each picture: C (Classic) for standard shots, H (HDTV) for group and wide-angle shots and P (Panorama) for large group shots or landscapes. The selection of the different film formats is not a one-time decision; photofinishers can reproduce the prints at any time in any of the formats.

OLYMPUS OPTICAL QUALITY
The Newpic M10 Macro has a high quality Olympus 25mm F6.7 lens with three elements in three groups. The Albada type viewfinder helps to ensure a clear view of any subject. With the Newpic M10 Macro's handy electronic self-timer, self-portrait and group shots are only 10 seconds away.

The suggested list price of the Newpic M10 Macro is $164.00.
