Olympus Diagnostic Systems Group Expands Laboratory Automation Offering With Tecan’s Genesis FE500 Workcell
Melville, N.Y. (January 16, 2003) - The Diagnostic Systems Group of Olympus America Inc. today announced it will market and distribute Tecan's Genesis FE500 workcell as part of its overall offering of laboratory automation solutions.
Ideal for a wide range of laboratory environments, the Genesis FE500 combines all pre-analytical functions including pre-sorting, centrifugation, volume check and clot detection, decapping, secondary tube labeling, aliquotting and destination sorting into analyzer racks from a variety of manufacturers. With distribution rights to the FE500, Olympus adds a key component to its overall laboratory automation product offering which includes the Olympus OLA2500, the OLA1500 and the OLA4000.
"The Genesis FE500 system complements our lineup very well," said Hiro Sekiya, Senior Product Manager for laboratory automation systems at Olympus DSG. "It's a stand alone, flexible system that minimizes manual labor, eliminates errors and streamlines workflow and productivity. It offers many of the time saving benefits identified with modular automation systems such as our OLA2500 system, with the addition of centrifugation, all within a relatively small footprint."
Carl Severinghaus, General Manager of Tecan US, commented, " The diagnostic systems from Olympus significantly increase throughput and productivity for important clinical diagnostic tests. We are pleased to collaborate with Olympus to provide the FE500 as an automation solution for their customers' demands in pre-analytical processing. Since its release in July 2000, the Tecan FE500 has been adopted in leading hospitals and clinical laboratories. It has proven itself as an excellent investment with the yield of increased reliability for specimen processing under the demands of staffing shortages."
