Improved Ferritin Assay Available for Olympus Chemistry-Immuno Analyzers

Melville, N.Y. (June 22, 2003) - An improved serum Ferritin reagent is now available from Olympus. The new Olympus Ferritin immuno-turbidimetric reagent is an improved formulation with 60-day on-board stability. The reagent, a sensitive indicator of body iron stores, is designed for use on the company's AU400e™, AU600™, AU640e™, AU2700™ and AU5400™ chemistry analyzers.

Serum Ferritin is useful in distinguishing iron deficiency from the anemia of chronic disorders. Increased levels of Ferritin are indicative of aplastic, sideroblastic or chronic hemolytic anemias, idiopathic hemochromatosis and in frequently transfused patients while low Ferritin levels are commonly observed in cases of iron deficiency.
