Olympus Macro Objectives Offer Outstanding Light Transmission For Fluorescence Microscopy

Melville, NY, November 9, 2003 - Macro optics designed for use on Olympus microscopes offer excellent transmission for fluorescence microscopy. The XLFluor4x/340 and the XLFluor2x/340 water immersion objectives are optimized for GFP observation, zebrafish studies and in vivo experimentation, along with other advanced fluorescence applications.

The two objectives deliver excellent transmission from 330nm to 700nm, and have high numerical apertures (NAs) for unprecedented light gathering capability. The XLFluor 2x/340 has an NA of 0.14 and a working distance of 16.3mm. The XLFluor4x/340 has an NA of 0.28 and a working distance of 29.5mm.

To make the best use of the impressive NA of these objectives, users can select from several special fluorescence cubes. In addition, Olympus offers the XL-CAP, a proprietary accessory that eliminates the effect of water surface ripple that can interfere with observing live specimens in chambers.
