Olympus D-620L Wins 1998 Macworld Editor's Choice AwardOlympus America Inc., Digital & Imaging Systems Group, the leading digital camera manufacturer, earlier this month announced that Macworld Magazine has awarded the Olympus D-620L the "Best Digital Camera for 1998" at their prestigious 14th Annual Editors' Choice "Eddy" Awards held in San Francisco at the Macworld Expo.
The D-620L is the third Olympus digital camera in a row to win Macworld's "Eddy" Award. In January 1998, Macworld bestowed the award to the predecessor of the D-620L, the Olympus D-600L. At the same ceremony, the D-600L also won the "Eddy" for "Best Hardware Product" of the year. In 1997, the Olympus D-200L won the "Eddy" Award for "Best Digital Camera."
The Olympus D-620L provides a true photographic experience, with both photo quality results and speedy camera performance. It combines a high-resolution progressive scanning CCD (1.4 megapixel 1280 x 1024) with a light-weight, built-in 3X zoom lens and TTL (through the lens) viewfinder, and an external flash sync/PC connector for professional quality shots in studio settings. The innovative D-620L design is inspired by the popular award-winning Olympus IS series 35mm ZLR cameras.
The D-620L filmless digital camera overcomes the major issues of earlier digital cameras - speed and battery consumption. It is also extendable as part of a photo system through a variety of lens attachments and third party flash options.
"We are proud that Macworld Magazine has again recognized Olympus for superior digital camera technology," said Dave Veilleux, Director of Marketing Communications, Olympus America, Digital & Imaging Systems Group. "The D-620L is the first of a new category, 'Filmless Digital Cameras' with the experience being that of 'filmless photography' instead of 'digital imaging.'"
The Macworld "Eddy" Awards are the Macintosh industry's highest distinction for breakthrough product development and technological innovation. The "Eddy" Awards honor the best software and hardware products for business, dynamic media, video, web, publishing, graphics and developer tools.
