3000th Olympus AU400 Chemistry Analyzer Comes to U.S.

Hospital laboratory clinical analyzer breaks record for Diagnostic Systems sales

Orlando, FL, July 26, 2005 - Olympus will unveil its 3000th AU400 chemistry analyzer on the show floor at the International Congress of Clinical Chemistry / American Association for Clinical Chemistry annual meeting in Orlando, Florida today. The unit breaks the company's sales record for a single diagnostic instrument, signaling the rapid growth of Olympus' presence in clinical laboratories worldwide.

Overall, Olympus has more than 10,000 laboratory diagnostic systems instruments actively installed and in use around the world. The compact AU400 and 400e analyzers allow small to mid-size hospitals to consolidate and automate with Olympus' proven reliability and 122-test repertoire. The systems have helped more than a thousand small to mid-size hospitals and laboratories worldwide optimize productivity since their introduction in 1998.

"This milestone AU400 system symbolizes the strong growth in the Olympus Diagnostics business over the past few years," said Stephen Wasserman, Group Vice President, Olympus America Diagnostic Systems Group. "We are seeing more hospitals and laboratories taking advantage of the benefits of our reliability and ease of use. Our growth has been fueled by the need to standardize and provide ever-more efficient, high quality care."

In addition to its full line of diagnostic analyzers, Olympus also works in many other areas to benefit clinical and reference laboratories. These include blood banking and transfusion services, patient safety, laboratory automation, workflow management, reagents and more.
