OLYMPUS ANNOUNCES SENIOR MANAGEMENT APPOINTMENTS IN MEDICAL SYSTEMS GROUP
Organizational Changes Support Olympus’ Market Knowledge, Brand Leadership and Total Solutions Portfolio in the U.S.
Melville, NY, December 5, 2005 - Olympus, a precision technology leader in designing and delivering innovative solutions in healthcare and consumer electronics worldwide, has announced three senior management appointments in its Medical Systems Group, effective immediately. Appointments include Rick Harbuck, group vice president; Bob Reinhardt, vice president, general manager of Medical Products; and David Barlow, PhD, vice president, Research and Development.

Harbuck, 52, is responsible for the overall management of the Medical Systems Group at Olympus America. During his 15-year tenure, Harbuck has served Olympus with increasing roles of responsibility. Most recently, from 2004-2005, he served as vice president of Sales, responsible for all Medical Systems sales activities and supervising the Group’s area vice presidents.
Prior to joining Olympus, Harbuck served in various sales capacities at Storz Instrument Company, Cadwell Labs and the Kendall Company. He received his B.S. degree from Auburn University College of Business in 1976.
Reinhardt, 44, who has over 20 years of experience in the medical device industry in a variety of marketing, development and general management roles, serves as the vice president, general manager of Medical Products. His new responsibilities include leading the overall management of the Medical Products business, encompassing gastroenterology and bronchoscopy endoscopes, endoscope reprocessing and repair service businesses within the Group. Additionally, he is responsible for managing market research and market development activities. Most recently, Reinhardt led the product introduction and launch of the new EVIS EXERA II 180 Endoscope System at Olympus. The EVIS EXERA II platform features breakthrough technologies in endoscopy, including Narrow Band Imaging and High Definition Endoscopes.
Before joining Olympus, Reinhardt served in various project management, research and engineering capacities at Cardio Technologies, Johnson & Johnson, Guidant and Meadox. He earned his B.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Tulane University and an M.S. in the same from Renssellaer Polytechnic Institute.
Barlow, 53, now oversees research and development for Olympus’ ever-expanding line of endoscopy products for advanced diagnostics and minimally invasive surgery. Barlow’s 27 years of experience in research and development with Olympus serves as a unique foundation in guiding organizational growth and ingenuity as the business evolves. During Barlow’s tenure he has guided Olympus’ transition from fiber-optic to video-based imaging systems, established the company’s U.S. regulatory, technical support and microbiology groups, and launched Olympus’ foray into computerized endoscopic documentation systems.
Barlow came to Olympus from the Krusen Center for Research and Engineering. He holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Connecticut and an M.S. and Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Drexel University. Barlow holds several U.S. patents and has authored chapters on technology in five endoscopy textbooks.
