Olympus Previews Two Intravital Fluorescence Molecular Imaging Systems for Research
MELVILLE, NY, November 11, 2005 - Olympus, a leader in the development of microscope systems for live-cell and live-animal imaging, and the world’s premier endoscopy company, is previewing two new intravital research systems, expected to be released in 2006, at the Society for Neuroscience Meeting in Washington DC.
The OV100 Intravital Observation System is a complete, closed-chamber system for high-sensitivity, high-speed imaging of mice and other small laboratory animals from micro to macro levels of observation. It features a wide magnification range, allowing zoom observation of areas ranging from 63mm x 47mm to 0.6mm x .45mm, a zoom range of 105x. High-resolution fluorescence imaging can be correlated with other techniques such as MRI, PET and CT scans. Its high numerical aperture (NA) optics ensure high-speed imaging with minimum specimen damage. The OV100 is also suitable for ultra-long-duration time-lapse observations and supports a wide range of image processing functions and other post-imaging analysis techniques.
The IV100 Intravital Laser Scanning Microscope features ultra-slim MicroProbe lenses for less invasive laser-scanned imaging of tissue and cells in small laboratory animals. Relying on Olympus’ high-precision engineering technology that has made the company the world’s foremost provider of endoscopes, the instrument allows the least invasive intravital research imaging possible. Users can select from three MicroProbe lenses, including two of the world’s slimmest objectives (each 1.3mm in diameter), along with the company’s full line of regular microscope objectives. With a MicroProbe lens and the IV100’s flexible observation angles, organs can be observed deep inside the body. A wide range of fluorochromes including those compatible with near-IR 748nm lasers is available for deeper, less damaging observations.
The IV100 and OV100 systems join the MVX10, Olympus’ new macro fluorescence microscope introduced at the Neuroscience meeting, to provide a full range of comprehensive approaches to macro-to-micro level imaging of living whole animals, organs, tissues and cells.
