MaxPass™ Biliary Balloon Dilation System

Product Description: March 2006

MaxPass™, the new single use biliary balloon dilator from Olympus, delivers improved procedural efficiency through rapid balloon deflation for the time-sensitive team conducting Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-Pancreatography (ERCP). MaxPass is designed to work with Olympus JF/TJF and V-System™ duodenoscopes for enhanced performance and improved patient outcomes.

"Biliary balloon dilation procedures have typically experienced delays due to slow or insufficient balloon deflation,” comments Dr. Stuart Sherman, Director of ERCP and Clinical Director for the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Indiana University Medical Center. “The new MaxPass dilation balloon from Olympus combines easy device insertion with rapid deflation to improve procedural efficiency. Specifically, the MaxPass balloon and inflation device provided our team with a greatly reduced deflation time, which in turn allowed for quick exchange to the next device and a more efficient ERCP.”

Efficient deflation
MaxPass eliminates the traditional procedural slowdown that typically occurs during balloon deflation. Extra-wide balloon inflation lumens on MaxPass, in concert with a new balloon material, minimizes downtime while waiting for deflation and reduces the chance of balloon damage, thereby improving procedural efficiency.

Better performance
To deliver more reliable performance and keep the balloon from slipping during dilation, the MaxPass balloon incorporates a new unique shape. While maintaining the site contact section at the required length, the tapered sections of the MaxPass balloon have been shortened.

MaxPass is available in balloon diameters of 4, 6 and 8mm and balloon lengths of 20, 30 and 40mm.

  Physician friendly
As well as being transparent, the new balloon material allows the MaxPass to maintain a compact shape when deflated. This compact shape makes it much easier to pass the balloon through a stricture, forceps elevator or endoscope channel.
