FDA Clears Olympus PK 7300® Automated Microplate System
Center Valley, Pa., January 14, 2008 — Olympus America Inc., the leading provider of high-throughput automated blood bank instruments in the North America donor market since the 1980s, today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared the Olympus PK 7300® Automated Microplate System for use in the United States. The FDA has also licensed Blood Grouping and Phenotyping reagents specifically formulated and manufactured exclusively for use on the PK7300 instrument. Designed for blood donor centers, the system will offer the performance that has made Olympus the leader in the field. Olympus systems test more than 90 percent of the North American blood supply.
The newest member of the PK7000 series utilizes the same proven technology, agglutination in the Olympus microtiter plates, as its predecessors – the Olympus PK 7100® and PK 7200® systems. The PK7300 system will also offer users enhanced process control features, increased throughput, upgraded computer hardware and software, and reduced maintenance.
The system will offer clot detection, reagent monitoring and quality control monitoring, and will use a flexible, user-friendly Windows®-based computer system. To streamline use and help ensure accurate recordkeeping, it will also feature extensive online support, with the user manual, troubleshooting guide, and maintenance and part usage records all available online.
For added convenience, the system features primary reagent vial sampling. The ABO/Rh and phenotyping antisera and reagent red blood cells will be provided to end users ready-to-use and packaged in barcoded reagent vials. No handling or manipulation of the reagents will be required.
