Olympus Names Todd A. Dawson Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer

CENTER VALLEY, Pa., (Oct. 5, 2010) -- Olympus, a precision technology leader designing and delivering innovative solutions in medical and surgical products and life science imaging instruments among other core business areas, has named Todd A. Dawson as Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer for Olympus Corporation of the Americas. Dawson is based at the company’s headquarters in Center Valley, Pa., where he will define and direct key healthcare compliance objectives and formulate strategic plans that oversee the company’s government and healthcare compliance activities. In this role, Mr. Dawson reports directly to F. Mark Gumz, President and CEO of Olympus Corporation of the Americas.

Dawson has more than 20 years of experience in intellectual property and healthcare compliance specifically related to medical devices. Previously, he was vice president of global intellectual property, vice president of legal affairs for the Americas, and patent and trademark counsel at Zimmer, Inc., a leading orthopedic company based in Warsaw, Ind. While at Zimmer, he helped to lead the development of that company’s compliance policies and procedures to ensure arrangements and interactions with healthcare providers were in compliance with federal and state healthcare laws. In that role, he helped to define company directives governing healthcare compliance activities globally. Additionally, he was heavily involved in intellectual property licensing, bringing technology and patents to Zimmer.
