Optogenetics

In neurobiology, optogenetics is the application of light stimulation to genetically encoded light reactive opsins allowing control of neural networks. Light stimulation at different wavelengths and with different optogenetic constructs can allow for excitation or inhibition of targeted neural pathways. At least millisecond order precision is required to effectively stimulate such responses. Olympus provides a range of solutions for optogenetic studies, from relatively simple but highly precise optoelectronic stimulation systems, to in vitro or in vivo confocal and multiphoton solutions for functional brain mapping.
