We believe that by integrating sound environmental, health, and safety management practices into all aspects of our business, we can offer innovative products and services while conserving resources for future generations. We establish environmental, health, and safety goals to continually improve our performance.

Regulation Compliance

We comply with all applicable environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations. Where laws and regulations do not provide adequate controls, we develop and adopt our own internal standards to protect human health and the environment. We conduct audits to ensure compliance with these requirements.

Reduce Energy Consumption

We endeavor to reduce energy consumption and conserve natural resources. At the same time, we engage in activities to increase the reuse and recycling of materials and reduce the amount of waste generated from our operations.

Customer Partnerships

Achieving and maintaining environmental, health, and safety excellence is everyone’s responsibility. We partner with our customers, suppliers, and contractors to create mutual value from our systems.

Environmentally Conscious Manufacturing

As part of those efforts, our manufacturing facilities adhere to world-leading Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) standards, have vastly reduced disposable packaging, and demand company and supplier compliance with global environmental standards.

In addition, we have adopted activities to promote CO2 emission monitoring and reduction with the goal of reducing our global CO2 output in 2026 by 25% as compared to our 2018 levels. This CO2 emissions goal targets not only our manufacturing, service, distribution, and administration facilities, but entire product lifecycles as well, including procurement, sales, logistics, use by customers, service, and disposal. We will accomplish this reduction, in part, by increasing our use of renewable energy by 20% by 2026 as compared to our 2018 levels.

Nationally, our headquarters for Olympus Corporation of the Americas in Center Valley, PA, incorporates numerous U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) principles, and many of our facilities across the Americas have instituted day-in, day-out green habits, from carpooling to the use of high-efficiency lighting. Olympus also supports sound end-of-life management of our products, participating in the North American Call2Recycle program and other electronics recycling initiatives.

Environmental Awareness Month

Each June, Olympus celebrates Environmental Awareness Month. This event is designed to harmonize as much as possible with the annual theme of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) World Environment Day, which is celebrated every year on June 5.

In June and throughout the year, all Olympus locations participate in activities designed to raise awareness of how employees can minimize their environmental footprint. Past activities have included hosting photo contests, recycling household electronic waste, composting organic materials, installing charging stations for electronic vehicles, and distributing energy-conserving lighting fixtures.
